Description
Overview
PhosGuard™ is a highly porous, bead-shaped media designed to rapidly remove phosphate and silicate from marine and freshwater aquaria. Its spherical shape promotes optimal water flow and increases both efficiency and capacity. PhosGuard™ works best in seawater and is not recommended for phosphate-buffered freshwater, as it will remove buffering agents until saturated.
Key Features
- Removes silicate and phosphate
- Spherical beads for optimal hydrodynamics
- Irreversible binding
- Suitable for marine and freshwater aquaria
- Available sizes: 100 mL, 250 mL, 500 mL, 1 L, 2 L, 4 L
Directions
Pre-wet PhosGuard™ by adding to twice its volume of freshwater, then rinse. Place in a filter bag and position in a high-flow area such as a canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or trickle filter. Avoid tumbling the beads against each other.
Use 85 mL (1/3 cup) for every 200 L (50 US gallons) saltwater or 400 L (100 US gallons) freshwater. Leave in place for 4 days, then test phosphate or silicate levels using MultiTest™. Replace only if concentrations exceed ~0.02 mg/L. Continuous use of small quantities is preferred over intermittent large doses. PhosGuard™ does not release bound phosphate or silicate back into the water and may be rinsed, dried, and reused until fully exhausted.
