Description
Overview
Seachem Matrix™ is a high-porosity biofiltration media designed for efficient removal of nitrogenous waste in both freshwater and marine aquariums. Its macroporous structure supports aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, allowing simultaneous control of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate.
Unlike most plastic bio-media, Matrix™ provides both external and internal surface area, with over 700 m² of surface per liter, allowing a far greater capacity for beneficial bacteria. It is completely inert, long-lasting, and compatible with all types of wet or wet-dry filters.
Key Features
- High-capacity biofiltration
- Controls ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate
- Highly porous: enormous surface area (~700 m²/L)
- Supports both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria
- Inert and long-lasting, does not need replacement
- Can be rinsed without damaging bacterial colonies
- Works in canister filters, drip trays, and other filtration systems
Sizes
- 250 mL, 500 mL, 1 L, 2 L, 4 L
Directions / Usage
- 250 mL treats approximately 200 L (50 US gallons) of water.
- Matrix™ may be placed directly in any type of filter. No filter bag is usually required.
- Particularly effective in canister filters, but also works well in drip tray systems.
- For rapid biofilter establishment, use in combination with Stability®.
- Dosage may vary depending on tank size; studies show Matrix™ treats even more water than previously recommended.
