Description

Overview

Cichlid Lake Salt™ is a chemically balanced blend of salts designed to replicate the natural environment of Rift Lake African Cichlids. It provides essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium, along with trace elements like iron, aluminum, iodine, and selenium.

Although the major Rift Lakes contain similar salts, their concentrations differ significantly. Cichlid Lake Salt™ is formulated so that dosages vary depending on the lake of origin and need only be added when setting up an aquarium or during water changes. For pH and carbonate hardness adjustments, pair with Tanganyika Buffer™ (pH 9.0–9.4) or Malawi/Victoria Buffer™ (pH 7.8–8.4).

Key Features

  • Replicates the natural mineral environment of Rift Lake African Cichlids
  • Affects general hardness (GH) only, not alkalinity or pH
  • Supports proper calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium balance
  • Safe for Malawi, Victoria, and Tanganyika cichlids
  • Available sizes: 250 g, 500 g, 1 kg, 4 kg, 20 kg, 100 kg

Directions

All doses are based on 40 L (10 US gallons) of DI or RO water. Adjust if using other water sources by measuring GH first.

  • Tanganyika: 11 g (1.5 teaspoons) – raises dGH by 8.8 units
  • Malawi: 5.5 g (3/4 teaspoon) – raises dGH by 4.4 units
  • Victoria: 3.6 g (1/2 teaspoon) – raises dGH by 3 units

Recommended GH ranges:

  • Tanganyika: 3–5.5 meq/L (8–14 dGH)
  • Malawi: 1.5–3 meq/L (4–8 dGH)
  • Victoria: 1–2 meq/L (3–6 dGH)

Tips: Dissolve in freshwater before adding to the tank. Use when setting up or during water changes. Do not use for simple top-offs due to evaporation.
