The API Proper pH range (6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.2) is a series of buffered pH stabilizers designed to both adjust and maintain a consistent pH level in aquariums. Each formulation targets a specific pH value, helping create stable conditions suited to different freshwater, brackish, or marine setups.
Unlike simple pH adjusters, Proper pH products act as buffers that resist pH fluctuations and help maintain long-term stability. They also include electrolytes and Aloe Vera to support fish health and reduce stress during water changes or setup.
Available Variants & Intended Use
-
Proper pH 6.5 – Soft-acidic conditions for species like tetras, discus, and angelfish
-
Proper pH 7.0 – Neutral community aquarium balance
-
Proper pH 7.5 – Slightly alkaline freshwater for livebearers, goldfish, guppies, mollies, barbs
-
Proper pH 8.2 – Alkaline conditions for African cichlids, brackish, and marine systems
Key Features

Important Notes
- pH will be held at the target level and may require multiple doses to achieve
- Can be influenced by carbonate hardness (KH)
- Not recommended for planted aquariums (phosphate buffer system)
- Best used in new setups or during water changes rather than emergency rapid correction
