Description

Overview

Acid Buffer™ is a non-phosphate pH buffer designed for planted aquariums or very hard water where phosphate buffers may cause algae or cloudiness issues. It lowers pH while converting carbonate alkalinity (KH) into available CO₂, making it easier for plants to utilize. When used together with Alkaline Buffer™, it allows precise control of pH between 5.0 and 8.0.

Key Features

  • Adjusts pH to 5.0–8.0
  • Designed for planted aquariums and hard water
  • Converts carbonate alkalinity (KH) into available CO₂
  • Non-phosphate formula
  • Available in sizes: 70 g, 300 g, 600 g, 1.2 kg, 4 kg

Directions

  • To lower pH, use 1/4 teaspoon (2 g) per 80 L (20 US gallons) daily until desired pH is reached. This lowers alkalinity by ~0.2 meq/L (0.6 dKH).
  • Larger doses may be needed in very hard or alkaline water.
  • For precise dosing, use the Seachem Digital Spoon Scale.
  • To adjust pH gradually, use Acid Buffer™ in combination with Alkaline Buffer™. Use the suggested ratio chart to target specific pH values:
Acid Buffer Alkaline Buffer Target pH
1 1.3 6.5
1 2.0 7.0
1 2.5 7.5
1 4.0 8.0
  • Note: Chart is based on RO or RO/DI water; ratios may require adjustment when using tap water.
